terekura

テレクラ

Literally “telephone club”.  An establishment where clientele (mostly males) for a fixed hourly fee can go to wait in private rooms for people to call in on the telephone with the implied expectation of meeting up for some sort of romantic get-together.  The terekura in 21st century Japan have quickly begun to lose to the popularity and convenience of deaikei Web sites.
